This is a blog entry I have resisted writing for many weeks but I cannot postpone it any longer. When we incorporated Friends of Greyhounds, we arbitrarily set our adoption fee at $175. We didn’t know enough about this business to have a rationale for the price. It just seemed fair. And it has been a fair price for almost 10 years. But we can no longer deny that our medical bills alone are not covered by the adoption fees.
We held some “business meetings” with some volunteers and trusted friends. It was unanimous. The fee had to go up. So, as of October 15th, our adoption fee will rise to $225. Likewise, the crates cost us more now so they will go up to $100 - still way less than in the stores. We hope you understand. In ten years a lot of prices have gone up and now we need to follow suit.
Wanna get around the raise? Adopt NOW! If we have an application before October 15th and delivery scheduled before October 31, we will honor the old price. The other way to do it - - - adopt a Superstar dog! We are starting a new round of Superstars and their adoption fee will be $175. We’ll have more about Superstars in upcoming articles.

This should have happened a long time ago. You've always been more than fair with your adoption fee and with the raise in price you are still very fair in your cost.
Fascinating story of a campaigner against hare coursing. It's free to download and worth a read:
