With the worst of summer’s heat behind us, South Florida traditionally revs up their street parties, festivals and BBQs. Seems like all of sudden, invitations to participate are coming out of the woodwork. All of our events have the possibility of resulting in exposure and adoptions for dogs and/or funds to care for them. If you can help out in any way, please let me know. Email works well (fogdogs@comcast.net) or call my cell: 954-937-9663. Can’t wait to see you at the parties! – Michelle
Sunset Feed Store is celebrating their 50th anniversary and we are invited! The party is 10-5 THIS Saturday, September 18th at 7650 SW 117th Ave, Miami, 33183. They’ll have several rescues, a dog wash, BBQ, Petting Zoo, Mechanical Bull, live music, DJ & a Karaoke Contest. This should be good exposure for the greyhounds and we’re taking the tag-cutting machine in hopes we can sell some tags, too. We need people to work the booth and maybe to change out adoptable dogs during the day. It should be a good crowd and a fun day! Come on down!
Bark at the Park II - This is a Humane Society day at the Marlins game and they allow the dogs to come to the ball park. We thought it might be fun to let people see a whole gaggle of greyhounds there. They do this twice a year so if you can’t make this one, watch for the next one. The date is Friday, October 1st, Game time is 7:10 pm and it’s the Marlins vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tickets are $12 for humans and $6 for the dogs. Yes, they’re nosebleed tickets and you have to walk the dogs all the way up the ramps - and down again. See you there? Let me know so we watch for you.
Building a No-Kill Nation - A few of you may be interested in this. It is a seminar being held at the Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center on October 9th, 11am to 8pm. Tickets are about $32. It is not greyhound or even dog-specific information. It is a series of speakers about pet overpopulation. For more information click on the title.
D1K BBQ at the Kennel - Friends of Greyhounds is celebrating our 1000th ADOPTION! We’re holding a BIG party at the kennel on October 10th and everyone is invited. Notice that date? 10/10/10 ? 10 x 10 x 10 = 1,000 That’s gotta be an extra special day! We’ll have the collar chains out for sure and our party collars on! This is a huge milestone for us and we want to celebrate in a BIG way. Marian & Leslie Glynn have been working on a major basket of goodies to be raffled off at this party. We’re also going to be selling tickets ahead of time so you can win without being present. (Out of the area, we’ll figure out how to ship it to you!) Party starts at 10 and goes until at least 3. Bring a dish if you want. (We love pot luck!) We’ll have more info coming up so stay tuned!
Miami Man Triathlon - We have some volunteers who are forming a Triathlon Team for Friends of Greyhounds. Racers for Racers? They will be swimming, biking and running on Sunday, November 14th down at the Miami MetroZoo. We’ll have a table down there too. Come help us cheer them on and tell all those athletes and their families about our available athletes. As this gets closer I’ll know more about hours and dogs.
